Use in the Operating Room
Adding Propofol Concentration to the Anesthesiologist’s ToolkitAnesthetists have been monitoring the concentration of inhalational anesthetic agents for years, using these measurements as a guide in delivery of anesthesia. Yet no system has existed to allow the measurement of the blood concentration of an intravenously administered anesthetic, like propofol. For the first time, Xhale’s XSensor Pro™ Propofol Monitor will provide anesthetists with this important tool.
Until now, anesthetists have relied entirely on measurement of indirect parameters to manage propofol infusion. Depth of sedation, oxygenation and ventilatory adequacy are monitored by a combination of blood pressure monitoring, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and end-tidal carbon dioxide. Recent independent studies have demonstrated a consistent, measureable correlation between patient blood plasma propofol concentration and the concentration of propofol in exhaled breath. Xhale’s XSensor Pro™ Propofol Monitor brings that measurement into the operating room so the anesthesiologist can incorporate this valuable, minute-to-minute information into patient management.
With XSensor Pro™, anesthetists have the ability to:
-
Maintain patients at an appropriate level of anesthesia - improving patient comfort and safety
XSensor Pro™ allows the anesthetist to gauge minute by minute patient propofol blood concentration and maintain the anesthesia level with precision
More closely align patient emergence with operating room events - bringing new efficiencies to medical procedures
XSensor Pro’s™ display of minute-to-minute blood propofol concentration provides the anesthetist with an additional tool to manage the timing of patient emergence
Resolve significant intra-operative events more quickly - improving patient safety
In the event of a significant intra-operative event such as hypotension, tachycardia, agitation, hypoxia, etc., XSensor Pro™ provides the anesthetist with a key variable currently unavailable in patient management – the blood concentration of propofol – allowing the provider to focus on other contributing factors
